Big Tobacco Mailers

Here are mailers that the tobacco industry has sent out to entice people to try their deadly products. Select a picture for more photos and further detail.

Bling It On: It comes in a shiny black box with flowery hot pink or teal borders. Camel No. 9, the name says in lettering that looks suspiciously like that of a famous perfume. “Light and luscious” reads the enticing slogan. This type of advertising is targeted at our children, making the cigarettes and the company’s “gifts” tempting.

Skoal-Bar, Skoal-Theater, Skoal-Work: These mailers were sent to smokers or others on their mailing list after the SmokeFreeOhio law went into effect to encourage smokers to keep their addictions strong instead of trying to quit. They gave away enough free product to addict a non-user.

The Farm Rocks: As part of their “The Farm: Free Range Music” promotion, Camel sent out these mini record players complete with records featuring rock-n-roll music, which promoted Internet rock bands that are popular with kids.

Snus: As a way to attract people to their new Snus product, and to continue to feed people’s nicotine addictions, Camel sent out these informational brochures. This smokeless, spitless form of tobacco comes in a small pouch and is becoming increasingly popular for middle and high school students to use during school.
